The CIM publishes the latest edition of its Establishment Survey. This annual study provides an overview of media use and device ownership in Belgium and serves as the basis for the CIM Golden Standard. The results show how digital media are becoming an increasingly integral part of everyday life, while traditional media continue to hold their place in Belgium’s media landscape.

Access to digital media has become a given for most Belgians. As a result, the main developments increasingly concern how people use their devices and media. This is one of the findings of the latest edition of the CIM Establishment Survey, which offers insights into the changing media habits of the Belgian population.

Internet use and artificial intelligence are on the rise
The results show that 88.3% of Belgians go online every day. The internet is also being used for an increasingly wide range of activities. Artificial intelligence is gaining ground as well: 40.4% of Belgians now use AI. However, usage varies considerably depending on age and education level.

Stable device ownership, changing usage
Televisions and smartphones remain the most widely owned devices in Belgium. At the same time, devices designed to perform just one specific function are becoming less common. The results point to a media landscape in which the range of devices available remains relatively stable, while the ways consumers use them continue to evolve.

Traditional and local media also continue to play an important role. Live television and FM radio retain their position alongside a growing range of digital alternatives. Media consumption in Belgium is therefore characterised by the coexistence of traditional and digital media channels.

Online privacy is receiving more attention
Alongside changes in media use, the study highlights growing awareness of online privacy. An increasing number of internet users are taking concrete steps to protect their privacy. This is a relevant development for all players in the digital ecosystem, where trust and responsible data use are becoming increasingly important.

An important reference for the media sector
The CIM Establishment Survey provides a broad overview of media use and device ownership among the Belgian population. The study also serves as the basis for the CIM Golden Standard, providing essential insights for further analysis of Belgium’s media landscape.
